High-Impact Learning Environments
A study on student achievement in two different classrooms was conducted. Classroom 1 mimics a traditional classroom and classroom 2 a high-impact learning environment which promotes active learning. Classroom 1 students were expected to score high as it consisted of high achieving students. Classroom 2 were expected to score low as this classroom consisted of students with lower academic abilities. The tables above show the results of this study. This indicates that a classroom that promotes active learning through classroom set-up increases student achievement.
According to Barrett, Zhang, Moffat, & Kobbacy (2013), "Classroom ecosystems which mirror real-world collaboration were found to increase student learning + 20%" (p. 683).
